Key IndustriesThe retail Industry is estimated to be the largest employer on the Sunshine Coast in 2005 employing approximately 18,800 persons.  Property & Business Services employs approximately 10,500 persons, followed closely by Construction, then Health & Community Services.  Accommodation, Cafés & Restaurants come in as the fifth largest employer with 8327 employed in the sector. 

Tourism:The Sunshine Coast accommodation industry is booming with room occupancy rate now averaging over 63%.  

Transport: The Sunshine Coast region is served by the Bruce Highway, Sunshine Motorway and the Brisbane-Sunshine Coast rail line, providing industrial estates with excellent access to the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane labour markets, the Brisbane International Airport, Sunshine Coast International Airport and the Port of Brisbane.

Water:  Part of the Mary Basin catchment area incorporating the region's major rivers: Mary River, Mooloolah River, South and North Maroochy River, Noosa River and tributaries. Major dams and lakes servicing in the region include Lake Cootharabah, Lake Cooroibah, Lake Weyba, Lake McDonald, Cooloolabin Dam, Ewen Maddock Dam, Barroon Pocket Dam, Wappa Dam and Doona Dam.

Energy: Natural gas pipelines have been laid along most major roads throughout the region with spur lines easily connected to new and existing commercial premises. 


Waste: Several wastewater treatment schemes operate in the Sunshine Coast region, providing reticulated sewerage infrastructure to all main urban areas and to coastal settlements at Maroochy, Noosa, and Caloundra.

Cultural Production: The Sunshine Coast provides 2.6% of the total of Queensland’s agricultural production with crops comprising over 50%

Climate: Around 300 days of sunshine yearly.  The average summer temperature ranges between 17°C to 28°C; winter between 7°C to 22°C; and spring and autumn between 13°C to 25°C.  These temperatures encourage swimming all year round and a relaxed style of dress.  The Sunshine Coast is sub-tropical resulting in rainfall mainly during the summer months
